Vagabond 4.0 - FOOD imitates ART
Vagabond Culinary Events presents: FOOD imitates ART: culinary interpretations inspired by contemporary art. March 29th - 31st, 2012 Open 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm nightly at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in the Bloch Building, Lens 2 Tickets are on sale NOW! Seating is limited! Price is $100.00 per person
Vagabond is pleased to present it's 4th pop-up restaurant installation to be held inside of the iconic Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in the highly acclaimed Bloch Building.
We are honored to have been invited by the Director/CEO of the Nelson-Atkins, Julián Zugazagoitia, to host one of our pop-up events inside the museum after he attended our first installation at the ORANGE event space.
Your evening will begin with a private 30 minute guided tour through the Bloch Building's Contemporary & Modern galleries. You will see Abstract Expressionist art, with its tragic, timeless and archetypal themes; Realist art, with its profoundly human desire to document the visible world; Pop Art, with its audacious elevation of popular culture to the realm of art; Minimalism, with its emphasis on systems and the materiality of the object and Conceptual Art, with its faith in the primacy of the idea.
From there you will be escorted into one of the most beautiful private rooms in the Bloch Building, "Lens 2," for your dinner. With floor to ceiling windows in every direction, the views of the lawn and of the Museum at night are breathtaking. This space was originally intended to be the restaurant inside of the Bloch Building, but was never finished. For three nights only, you will be one of the few who will get to experience this space the way it was intended.
Once you are seated, Chef Alex Pope will take you through an expression of "the art of the dish" as each of his 7-courses will be inspired by the contemporary and modern art pieces that you will have just viewed on your tour.
Chef Alex Pope will be preparing for your pleasure the following menu, please note that each course will also be paired with an appropriate wine to accompany it:
1. "Kelp" by Brett Weston: seabeans, seaweeds, black radishes, black sesame, raw scallop
2. "Lime Line" by Dean Fleming: lake trout tartar, bowfin caviar, beet, asparagus, pretzel
3. "Study of Clenched Hand" by Auguste Rodin: boneless chicken/duck foot, soy, foie gras, smoked ramps, brioche
4. "Untitled 1952" by Jackson Pollock: pollock, boudin blanc, squid ink pasta, black trumpets, rosemary
5. "Untitled 2004" by Alexander Ross: pea sculpture, lamb, goat cheese, morels
6. "Diaphan 15, Orange Yellow/Orange" by Clytie Alexander: Parmesan & saffron tuile, miso crème fraiche, turnip, prosciutto
7. "Shuttlecocks" by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Brugge: Dark Chocolate, cherry, basil, clove meringue
Remember, you may purchase as many guaranteed seats as you would like. The more the merrier. However, there will be only one seating each night with approximately 60 seats available, so space is limited. Purchase your tickets now for the best dates.
We are Vagabond, and this is dining . . .dialed up.
